It can be said without a doubt that the pandemic has got the best of us. It took away our freedom, joy and in some cases, it also snatched away our loved ones from us. As the world has now begun to initiate the process of going back to normal, stadiums have started to fill up, movies have started being released on the big screen instead of the online streaming websites, we can't possibly move forward without paying a glance to what happened and what's in store for us.
The Domino effect
The pandemic not only deteriorated our passion to learn and study well, it also left a great negative impact on many industries. Whether it is sports or tourism, the pandemic has shut many businesses, But the event industry was hit the worst. It got so hard to tackle the situation at one point during the pandemic, that many people were forced to pack their bags and leave.
The very first event which was canceled in the initial stage of the CoronaVirus Pandemic was 2020's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which was a huge B2B event. After the cancellation of MWC, we witnessed what can be called a Domino effect, in which events started getting canceled or postponed as the lockdowns were initiated and the number of Corona cases rose to the sky. Mega events from India's IPL to the USA's The Burning Man were canceled, but this was just the beginning.
What happened during the pandemic
After the industry started to fall and events started getting canceled, the event industry went through a very bleak and dark phase. Events after events, programs after programs were canceled, which resulted in the stagnancy of the industry. Many events were forced to be conducted online which gave a little window for the event management companies to breathe and relax, but it wasn't enough. Online events didn't receive the type of engagement from the general public which the offline events received immensely. Event organizers and companies which were able to successfully adapt to the online mode were spared and conducted their business smoothly.
What's next for the Event Industry?
Although the event industry went through a dark phase, many event organizers pulled through. The pandemic left a massive dent in the Event Industry. However, it can be safely said that the future of this industry is bright as the unlock process has initiated many event organizers who have started receiving huge requests for events. All of us were forced to stay put in our homes for more than a year, which has instigated a hunger inside us to have fun through attending events of great magnitude.
Whatever happens next can't be predicted, but what we know for sure is that the event industry lost many great chances to boom and has a lot to work upon now. It will be hard to achieve normalcy again, but we are hopeful that we will achieve it.
